When it comes to timeless pieces, classic tailoring and understated elegance that resonates through the seasons, Lisboetas turn to Luís Carvalho. Carvalho was born and raised in the North of Portugal in the town of Vizela, Braga and studied at the Cenatex Professional School in Guimarãe, followed by fashion and textile design at the School of Applied Arts in Castelo Branco.
He had his first encounters with ModaLisboa as a volunteer, before working in the studios of fellow designers Filipe Faísca and Ricardo Preto. After managing the flagship store of Miguel Vieira in Lisbon and spending two and a half years as a designer at Salsa Jeans, he decided the time had come to step out and showcase his own original pieces.
In 2013 he founded his label Luís Carvalho and made his debut at Lisbon Fashion Week where he has been a fixed addition ever since.
His last collection for S/S 18, Eagle Eye embodied the unrivalled strength, composure and textures of the Eagle. This was presented with a palette of seductive neutrals and fluid satins that gave each piece movement and the grace of flight. Silhouettes were built up with layers including ruffles, sweeping bell bottoms and layered pleats, progressing from fainted shades of pink to warmer tones of ochre. The finale gave once more a strong nod to the designer who undoubtedly pushes himself with each new collection to realise the full potential of his talent and eye for tailored detail.
Carvalho’s dedication to signature tailoring and execution of the effortless but elegant style synonymous with Lisbon natives has made him a household name. His collections have become staples of the red carpet, with he is more than often the first choice for some of Portugal’s bright young things when it comes to black tie attire.
Kelly Bailey, Raquel Strada, Ana Sofia Martins and Luis Borges have all been spotted in various of the designers stunning pieces, making him a staple of Portugal’s red carpet events.
We don’t know about you, but we’re thrilled to see what comes next with this unique #StreetStyleRebel.
