If one duo has made a name for themselves in electronic music, it’s the Dewaele brothers. Be it as rock-electronica band Soulwax or under their 2manyDJs moniker: the two Belgians with a talent for composing groovy, ever-catchy sounds have long reached cult status. This is not least due to their ability to seek out and blend the finest pieces of music across a vast a array of different genres. As their artist bio on Resident Advisor puts quite aptly: “From politically incorrect prog-rock to funky r&b, from trendy hiptrop to banging German techno, ja: if it gets a booty going, the Dewaele brothers have it in their record collection”.
Unsurprisingly, the prolific brothers were head over heels when they first encountered Emmanuelle‘s infectious Italo disco sound. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, the Miami-raised producer met Soulwax in her chosen hometown of Milan a couple of years ago and showed them some the music she’d produced from her bedroom. Impressed with her work, the Dewaeles didn’t hesitate and made Emmanuelle their protégé. Fast forward a couple of years later she has two successful releases on Soulwax’s Deewee label to show for it. “Italove”, the B side of her second EP released in 2016, became a club hit that took international dance floors by storm. No wonder, since it’s basically impossible not to picture yourself on a beautiful beach at sunset, when you hear Emmanuelle’s enchanting voice whisper “I love you” into your ear over a catchy baseline!
But enough with the chit-chat: We’ve asked the upcoming DJ and producer about her music and style inspiration in our quick fire interview series. Enjoy!
