If you’re in Lisbon you will be spoiled for choice as some of city’s best clubs and bars open their doors early in the week to celebrate. Whether you seek a night of non-stop dancing and masquerade or simply some late hours grooving, we’ve done the thinking for you and shortlisted 5 parties that we are crushing on for those carnaval vibes.
1. Rive Rouge – Mother & F**kers Party
with Heartbreakerz, Sininho, Front Row Diva Collective & Ines Castel-Branco
Kicking off at 10pm expect an unapologetic celebration of Lisbon nightlife in all its glamour sensuality and diversity. Prepare yourself for a stellar line-up of electrodivas behind the decks with sounds courtesy of Portuguese dup Heartbreakerz and Dj Sininho joined by a dazzling performance from 12 knockout divas. Did we mention there’s a dress code? Think 1920s/2020 Vision – black, tie, heels and thrills. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

2. Musicbox – Moon Duo
with Moon Duo
If live music is your calling than look no further than Musicbox where Portland’s own Moon Duo will be performing as part of the Portuguese tour for their latest album, Occult Architecture. Expect a mind-bending journey of explosive guitar from Erik Ripley Johnson of Wooden Shjips fame and Sanae Yamada as they take you through a night of the finest that psychadelic rock has to offer.

3. Lux Frágil – Marcel Fengler
with Marcel Fengler, Rui Vargas, Yen Sung & Helder Russo & I’LL
Forever the cult favourite for quality techno, Lux Frágil doesn’t miss a beat for Carnaval calling upon a true Berlin DJ considered a craftsman on the decks: Marcel Fengler. With a Berghain residency under his belt since 2005 and hailed for his melodic grooves and fine cuts, this will be a night guaranteed to get you moving into the early hours of Tuesday morning.

4. Casa Independente – Itinéraires #14 : Tambores do Carnaval
with Nelson Makkossa and DJ Carie
Dishing out the Carnaval vibes at the stunning Casa Independente will be DJ Carie. The club resident will be joined by special guest Nelson Makossa for a night of percussions, funk and rare African seventies beats. Expect to hear Afro treasures straight from avid collection compiled by Makossa who carefully crafts the perfect beats to trigger your inner voodoo rhythms. Coupled with Carie’s hip-hop and breakbeat flair, this party promises to bring down the roof.

5. Anjos 70 – Baile Monstruoso | Matiné de Carnaval
with CelesteMariposa, De Los Miedos, mobphonic (aka C-Netik) and Cumbadélica
And finally a matiné! Anjos 70 will host their own afternoon of drinks and dancing on the day of Carnaval. An intimate but friendly affair boasting a selection of Lisbon’s local producers from Celeste Mariposa, De Los Miedos, Mobphonic and Cumbadélica awaits you. The best part? Entry for those in costume is free.
